‘Secure Your ID’ Day Helps Protect Community From Identity Theft

BALDWINSVILLE, N.Y. — Community members in Baldwinsville had the chance to drop off documents and shred them to help protect against identity theft on Saturday.

It was part of a national event by the Better Business Bureau called “Secure Your ID” day. Last year, 13.1 million people were victims of identity fraud.

Officials used the event to shred documents and also hand out material on how to protect yourself from identity theft.

Some said there is no better way than getting rid of sensitive documents.

“It gets 100 percent destroyed and just ripping it up isn’t good enough. People can piece that back together, but the new shredding ways they shred it every possible way it’s on the very of impossible to put it back together,” said Jerold Anderson, a Baldwinsville resident.

Time Warner Cable News was a proud sponsor of “Secure Your ID” day.
