Polson man wanted for ID theft, burglary arrested in Washington

POLSON – A local man wanted in connection with cases involving identity theft, burglary and check washing was arrested in Washington state over the weekend.

Asa Alan Lehrke, 49, was taken into custody and is being held in the Spokane County Jail, where he is awaiting extradition to Montana, according to Polson Police Detective Michelle Scott.

Polson police had issued a $100,000 arrest warrant for Lehrke, an absconder from the Montana Department of Corrections, last week.

Lehrke eluded law enforcement in recent weeks when he was pulled over by a Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribal officer but escaped on foot, disappearing into a large apartment complex in Polson.

Authorities obtained a search warrant for the abandoned vehicle and discovered several stolen checkbooks, Social Security cards, photo IDs, burglary tools, drugs and drug paraphernalia, many pieces of jewelry and a freshly stolen all-terrain vehicle in the back.

Scott said she did not yet have details on how Washington authorities came in contact with Lehrke, only that they had arrested him on the warrant.
