Police Log: Identity theft

Flagstaff police arrested a man after he accidentally handed them someone else’s driver’s license.

According to police reports, officers went to the garage at Kit Carson RV Park around noon Sunday in connection with a burglary investigation. The manager let police inside to look around while one of the mechanics continued to work. After about 20 minutes, the officers located a few items they recognized as being stolen.

They asked for the mechanic’s ID before questioning him about the stolen items. Instead, he handed them the driver’s license of another man. Police also found the other man’s debit card in the suspect’s possession. The suspect later told officers a co-worker, whose name also did not match the one on the license, had asked him to hold onto the cards a few days earlier. The suspect said he handed the license to the officers by accident.

Jorge Gabriel Perez, 29, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor theft and taking the identification of another.
