POLICE BLOTTER: ID theft victim ‘wouldn’t put it past my mama’

PANAMA CITY — A case of possible identity theft is costing one woman more than $1,500 — and she suspects her mother.

The Panama City Police Department responded Oct. 19 to a call of possible identity theft. The complainant told officers her mother and cousin had fraudulently opened a cable account in her name while she had been incarcerated. The woman said she found out about the account when she tried to apply for a loan and discovered she had bills in collection totaling more than $1,500.

PCPD reported the dates on the bills did indeed match the woman’s time of incarceration and that the name on the bills was slightly misspelled.

When the officer asked why the woman suspected her mother and cousin, she told them, “Because those two were staying at the address listed on bill, and I wouldn’t put it past my mama.”
