Placer sheriff offers class in identity-theft prevention

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office is offering a free identity-theft prevention class June 23 in Auburn.

The class is open to the public and will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in the community room at the sheriff’s headquarters in the Auburn Justice Center, 2929 Richardson Drive.

The seminar will provide information on reducing one’s risk of becoming a victim, safeguarding identity, how criminals obtain information and what steps to take if you do become a victim.

It will be taught by Det. Ryan West, a financial crimes expert. West has taught hundreds of citizens how to protect themselves against identity theft, which is considered the fastest-growing crime in America, according to a sheriff’s news release.

Reservations are required and may be made by calling Amanda Rogers at (530) 889-6901 or emailing her at arogers@placer.ca.gov.
