Identity theft can take years to discover; police preach awareness of finances

Last June, a Carroll County woman learned that someone with the same name had used her social security number and date of birth to rent two apartments, purchase a car and open a credit card. An arrest was just made this month.

In December, a Westminster woman got a call from a credit monitoring service and learned that her information had been used to apply for multiple store credit cards which were used to make thousands of dollars of purchases. An arrest was made in April.
