Franklin County woman reports identity theft after someone else filed her …

An Antrim Township woman contacted state police in Chambersberg earlier Wednesday after learning someone else had apparently used her social security number to file her income tax.

The victim, who was only being identified as a 42-year-old woman, learned of the fraud when she went to file her income taxes and was told by the IRS that forms with her social security number had already been filed, according to state police. The IRS opened its own investigation into the fraudulent filing, but the woman was advised to file a report with local police.

The woman notified trooper at the Chambersburg barracks at around 3:55 p.m. Wednesday and the case remained open as of Wednesday night.
