Elgin caregiver faces identity theft charges

Police have charged an Elgin woman with aggravated identity theft for stealing the identity of a resident from The Garlands of Barrington and taking $8,200 from the victim’s bank account, the Lake County News Sun is reporting.

Vanessa Williams, 35, was arrested Aug. 1 and charged with theft and aggravated identity theft at The Garlands, 1000 Garlands Lane, the News Sun reports on their website.

Williams was the victim’s caregiver and withdrew money from the victim’s bank account, the News Sun reports.

Williams is also facing an additional charge of aggravated identity theft because the victim is more than 60 years old, the News Sun reports.
