DWI Report: Man charged with DWI, identity theft

A 52-year-old man was charged with driving while impaired as well as identity theft after he allegedly gave false information about who he was to a Greenville police officer, according to a weekly review of Pitt County court records.

Gregory Earl Coppedge of 3806 Sterling Pointe Drive was stopped at 3:02 a.m. Oct. 20 on Sterling Pointe Drive near Thomas Langston Road by Greenville police.

He had red glassy eyes, a strong odor of alcohol and refused to take a breath test, according to court documents.

He also was charged with public urination after allegedly urinating in the parking lot on Sterling Pointe Drive, as well as having an open container of alcohol in his vehicle and no operator’s license.

After the officer arrested Coppedge for driving while impaired, Coppedge allegedly said to the officer, “I am going to break your nose,” so he also was charged with communicating threats.

Coppedge also allegedly used the name of Rodrick Coppedge, his birth date, his driver’s license and his Social Security numbers for the purpose of avoiding the legal consequences of driving while impaired, resulting in the identity theft charge.

He also was charged with giving fictitious information to an officer, as well as resist, delay and obstruct an officer for failure to obey the officer’s commands pulling away from the officer as the officer was escorting him to the jail.

One other person was charged with driving while impaired according to court records and law enforcement reports available between Oct. 18 and Oct. 24, 2016. In that case, court documents indicate:

Rhema Zoe Mageo, 22, of 1002 Churchhill Way, Midway Park, wrecked his car about 3:15 a.m. Oct. 23 on U.S. 264, according to the State Highway Patrol. He admitted to drinking and had red glassy eyes, a strong odor of alcohol and his blood alcohol level was 0.08. Details about the wreck were not available.
