ASHEBORO — A home health nurse is under investigation for allegedly taking advantage of an elderly woman in her care by using her personal information to set up false accounts.

Asheboro police declined to identify the suspect because an investigation is ongoing, but did say the woman has been charged in similar situations in the past.

Police reported Monday that Eric Snodgrass reported that his grandmother, June Snodgrass, 88, of Park Street in Asheboro had been victimized. According to a report, the suspect was a home health nurse for Snodgrass from December 2012 to June 2013, and has previously been charged with using the woman’s identity to open other accounts, including cable TV and utility accounts. Police report all these bills ran overdue and the victim was sent late fees and billing notices.

The latest allegation involves a Direct TV account. According to the report, the account was opened using Snodgrass’ Social Security number and credit card. The bill amounted to $1,013.04.

“In June, it was determined that the suspect paid a Direct TV bill with the victim’s credit card in which she was criminally charged,” the report said. “It appears that the suspect also opened the Direct TV account fraudulently as well.”
