3 nabbed at airport part of suspected identity theft ring

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Three people accused of using identifying information to open credit accounts at a local department store were arrested as they tried to board a plane back to New York, according to an arrest affidavit.

Patrick George, 32, Douglas Bullock, 25, and Jason Ellison were charged with organized retail theft.

George used identifying information from a man living in Brooklyn, New York to open an account at a Nordstrom Rack store on Research Boulevard on April 17, the document said.

The group then used the credit account to make purchases at three area Nordstrom stores, police said.

Police were able to track down the men by obtaining surveillance video of the car they were using and tracing it to a rental car company, the document said. A representative at the car company informed police the car had been returned to the business’s airport location.

Using images captured by surveillance cameras, police found three men sitting at a boarding gate at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport matching their description, the warrant said.

The men had several bags from Nordstrom’s containing merchandise matching items purchased under the fraudulent account, police said.

Further investigation revealed several more driver licenses and credit cards and a hologram overlay, which police say are commonly used to create fake ID’s, according to the warrant.

The men were booked into Travis County jail.
